Philosophy

My philosophy is a simple one--to create the highest quality handcrafted furniture built to the customers specifications and needs.

To begin this process, I draft a line drawing which receives final approval by the customer, followed by a full-scale detailed line drawing. I then select my materials from the best hardwoods available (i.e., walnut, tiger maple, flame birch, cherry and mahogany). The lumber is then milled and jointed to size, hand planed and hand scraped to finished thickness which removes all modern day machine marks. Each piece is then jointed together by hand-cut dovetails and mortise and tenon joints which have been proven to withstand the test of time. (Customers often enjoy hidden compartments which I will add upon request.) I then craft and apply the moldings, feet, doors, and drawers, all the while sanding with multiple grits of sandpaper throughout the building process.

After construction is completed, the finishing process begins. All shellac finishes are hand rubbed between each coat. Aged and laquer finishes are available upon customer request. The final step is the application of the finest hardware and installation of period glass, mirrors, etc. I sign and date all pieces upon completion. As you can see, this is a tedious and time-consuming process. However, the end result is a piece of furniture that will last through the years and be passed down for generations to come.

Restoration Work

I will perform restoration work at an hourly rate.

Warranty

All pieces are designed to function as they were intended. Because wood is a natural material, it will "move" with changes in temperature, humidity, and with age. I will repair or replace any part of the piece if it would become nonfunctional due to craftsman error.

My shop is located on a small farm in Chester County, just 60 minutes from Philadelphia, Harrisburg, and Baltimore.
